The Hidden Gems Of Ghana From A Local Guide
From hidden beaches, to waterfalls, to lush abandoned castles, these are the places in Ghana that deserve some spotlight, especially as the world is opening up for travel.
What if I told you Ghana has thousands of hidden gems that are still undiscovered? From hidden beaches, to waterfalls, to lush abandoned castles. Being a local guide and content creator has taught me how to see things differently and how to find hidden treasures even in the remotest of places. If you’re looking to visit Ghana anytime soon to relax and pamper yourself in the quiet, this blog post is the perfect guide for you. Ready to find some treasures? Let’s go!
PAPS BEACH CAMP, KETA
I discovered this gem in 2019 long before the pandemic showed its face. Paps Beach in Keta is found at the south eastern part of Ghana, a quite remote but spectacular destination. If you’re looking for time away from the noise in the city, you should definitely check out this place. You can watch the sunset at 5pm along the clean sandy beach, go kayaking on the lake, play beach volley, take a nap in a hammock on the beach, or feed sea turtles. Paps Beach is just one of the several gems along the coast at Keta. Paps Beach Camp is approximately a 3 hr drive from the city.
ASENEMA FALLS
Chasing waterfalls became a burning wanderlust for me, after lockdown restrictions were lifted. I needed a space to relax, rewind and regenerate. Asenema Falls is an hour and a half journey away from Accra and it is my go to destination. Asenema Falls hasn’t received the spotlight it deserves as people rarely visit or think of it to be a destination. You can visit Asenema to enjoy a cold bath from the lashing waters, enjoy the greenery from the Akwapim mountains or have a picnic just at the base of the falls.
FORT METAL CROSS
I was obsessed the first time I visited the south western part of Ghana because of the breathtaking views and sights. Fort Metal Cross takes the crown! The abandoned fort has still maintained its historic beauty and overlooks the sea. Just behind the fort is another enticing gem, the white chalets by the beach. The spot is a great space to have a picnic or just take a swim in the sea.
BOAT SAILING IN ADA FOAH
I know, sailing isn’t something popular to Ghanaian folks as the majority cannot afford such a luxury. However, I think it deserves a mention! Ada Foah located about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Accra is home to so many beach activities from jet skiing, to cruising, to boat sailing. Boat Sailing will be the rarest activity to indulge in. Go boat sailing at the Ghana Sailing club on a Saturday and get lost in the sea breeze and atmosphere in Ada. The whole experience lasts for an hour and you could get back to doing other activities like swimming in the clear waters.
I know I haven’t shared all the hidden gems in this post and that is because I’m still searching for lost treasures. Once I find them, I'll get back to you with the good news. If you enjoyed this post, visit my Instagram @kofigramm to follow my quest!
