By air, by sea
Since it’s an island, you’ll have to get to Mykonos either by air or by sea. You can take a 30-minute flight from Athens for a plane ride filled with breathtaking views, or by ferry if you don’t get seasick easily! There are also a few cruises that make overnight stops on the island, which is a great option if you want to visit multiple Greek/European destinations in one trip.
If you’re from the United States, keep in mind you’ll probably need to make a few connecting flights. Check out the Visit Mykonos website and scroll down for a list for available flights and ferries!
The Isle of Wind
Time to explore the island! First stop, the Mykonos windmills (also known as Kato Milli or Kato Myli). Enjoy the scenery of Chora and beyond while exploring these historical buildings! This sightseeing hike is a romantic escape for your last night on the island, and will take you less than an hour.
Are you a beach bum? For the best places to get some sand in between your toes and salt in your hair, check out Paradise Beach to party, Psarou Beach for views, and Fokos Beach for some alone time.
The Mykonos Folklore Museum is a goldmine of history if you want to learn more about Mykonos’ culture. A variety of Greek artifacts, pottery, photographs, and other miscellaneous tools can be found in preserved homes-turned-exhibits for your viewing pleasure.
Fun fact. The island is named after its first ruler, Mykonos, who was a local hero and grandson of Apollo (god of music and dance).
Souvlaki and a Martini, please
You won’t run out of places to eat and drink, especially if you’re into seafood and Greek cuisine. Need a fruity cocktail to quench your thirst on the beach? Savory souvlaki cooked with ingredients grown locally? How about some Greek-Italian fusion in Little Venice? Mykonos has got it all.
